CLECS Y CLWB / CLUB GOSSIP (December 2012) (14-12-2012)

The Winter competitions continued apace on the local fairways with the golfers turning out in impressive numbers despite the seasonal weather experienced.
Nearly sixty players played the third leg of the Winter League with the inform Ian Jones leading the way on 43 points. Runner up was Jeremy Edmunds on 41 and Brian Isacc on 39 points and the ever improving Phil Talco on 38 points. A good turn out was experienced for an extra Stableford with over fifteen players attaining par or better. Leading the way was Iwan “Yogi” Evans on an incredible 47 points while leading the also rans were Harvi Singh and Clive Davies on 41 points and D W Davies the best of three on 40 points. The following week a four ball better ball was held in difficult blustery conditions. However Patrick Jones and Nigel Southgate on 42 points held off the challenge of Dylan Morris and Phil Talco on 41 points to take the accolades.
During the early part of December, two special Cut Throat competitions took place. The first saw the climax of the Llanilar Tuesday Turkey Trail. After six consecutive Tuesday returns, of which the best four counted towards an individual total, the comfortable winner on 149 points was Richie Jenkins. Lloyd Evans and Terry Richards were joint second on 145 points and JAV Roberts (140) and Harvi Singh (139), the best of the rest. Leader and organiser of the Tuesday cut throat, Alun Jenkins presented the vouchers to the winners and wished them a festive celebration.
Also the Wednesday cut throat celebrated a special occasion when seven of the regular players reached the promised age during the year. JAV Roberts, John Wootton, Arthur Newman, Billy Morris, David James, Alun John and Dai Jones were the members in question and led five man teams on the day. The successful quins were JAV Roberts’ team of Mike Bradley, Harvi Singh, Jeremy Edmunds and Emrys James. The celebrating seven entertained the rest to a mini buffet and handed out prizes in a very convivial apres-golf celebration
