The end of Summer and beginning of Autumn programmes at Aberystwyth Golf Club saw most of the competitions come to a climax with the finals taking place. In the Club Championship played over 36 holes off scratch, a tight finish saw Anthony Griffiths with two excellent rounds of 74 & 75 for a total of 149 beat Jeremy Edmunds 74 & 76 – 150 by the least possible margin of just one shot. Jonathan Evans with 75 & 88 – 163 was third. Meanwhile in the Club Championship Knockout Anthony Griffiths again came out on top beating Jeremy Edmunds by 3-2.
However Jeremy Edmunds did come out on top in several other competitions. In the Captain’s Cup he beat Harvi Singh two up. The semi-finalists were Jonathan Evans and Martin Harries. In the Vice Captain’s Plate Terry Davies was the winner by defualt. Paul Carr having reached the final was unable to challenge Terry due to an injury. The semi-finalists here were George Shepherd and Trevor Stables.
Jeremy Edmunds then combined with Harvi Singh in the Foursomes Knockout to beat Emlyn Thomas and Clive Williams comfortably by 7 and 6. In the Captain’s four ball better ball knockout the same combination of Harvi Singh and Jeremy Edmunds beat Clive Davies and Wyn Hughes narrowly by 2 and 1. The semi-finalists were Pat Jones and Ioan Richards and Jonathan Evans and Matthew Evans. In the President’s Putter Jonathan Evans narrowly saw off Emlyn Thomas in the final by 2 & 1with Alun John and Harvi Singh the unlucky semi-finalists. In the Ken Joel Cup Jeremy Edmunds maintained his good form with a return of 74-7-67 to win from Jonathan Evans 75-5-70 second, Anthony Griffiths 74-4-70 third and Jamie Rees 84-12-72 fourth. Jeremy’s reward for his excellent return was a drop of handicap to 6.
The two remaining Redvers Llewellyn qualifiers also took place in this period. In the first Anthony Griffiths led with 76-4-72 from Ray Dodd 92-19-73. Martyn Lewis 87-13-74 was third, Barry Phipson 80-6-74 fourth. In the last qualifier the two qualifiers were Adrain Davies 83-11-72 beating Clive ‘Gosty’ Williams 86-10-76 into second place. All the qualifiers will play in a one off final.
The last Summer Monthly Medal took place with J A V Roberts 88-18-70 winning on countback from D.A.Davies 84-14-70. Ian Jones 83-13-70 was third, Terry Richards 91-20-71 fourth.
The last Summer Stableford competition of the Summer saw D A Davies win with 36 points off 14. Terry Richards 35 off 20, was second beating Ian Jones also 35 points off 13 on the back nine. Alun P Thomas was fourth with 32 off 15.
The Seniors continued with their programme with four home matches. They had good wins against Llanidloes 4-1, Aberdovey 4 ½ - ½ and Penrhos narrowly 3-2 but they came up short against Borth losing by 3 ½ to 2 ½.
The Tigers in the Dyfed Leaque Division 1 had mixed fortunes losing 7-1 to Carmarthen away and Haverfordwest 5-3 at home before improving to beat beating Glynhir 5-3, halving the match against Carmarthen 4-4 and finally coming good by beating Milford Haven, the leaque Champions, 5 matches to 3.
Finally the Rabbits had a bad day at the office travelling to South Pembs and losing 6-0.
