Despite the disruptive nature of weather resulting in the latest Spring for many a year, the transition from Winter to Summer golf proceeded seamlessly. To draw a line under the Winter golf, the Winter league winners were announced. In the Jeremy Edmunds sponsored event, Clive Davies was the comfortable winner with a total of 196 points. Second with 183 points was Paul Carr with Barry Phipson third with 136 points.
The traditional Easter competitions took place as usual. In the Major Mathias Bogey Competition, Simon Edwards took the honours playing off six and returned +6 comfortably holding off the rest, Three players were on +2, Emyr Jones off 14 second beating Roly Salmon off 16 on countback who similarly beat John Scullion off 13. On the following day Roly Salmon emerged as the winner of the Cambrian Cup with a return of 80-15-65 and will now play off 14. Second was Terry Davies 86-18-68, beating Dylan Morris 74-6-68 on the back nine with Wyn Pugh 77-8-69 fourth.
The RAFA Cup due to be played at Easter was played later on and saw Emyr Jones drop his handicap to 13 after returning 39 off 14 to win the cup. Runner up was D.A.Davies 37 off 13 and Dave Houghton 36 off 10 third holding off Clive Davies 36 off 8 on countback.
Just before Easter a four ball better ball competition took place and with a return of 44 points Clive Davies and Justin Quinn led the way from Dylan Morris and Trever Stables with 42 points and Mark Deveraux and Graham Saunders Jnr on 41 points.
Two further Stableford competitions were also played. In the first Arwyn Morris with 40 points off 15 led the way and saw his handicap dropped by a shot, from Jamie Rees 38 off 12, Jeff Hughes 37 off 18 and Stephen Williams 37 off 16. In the other Stableford, Wyn Hughes led with 35 off 20 on countback from Clive Davies also 35 off 9. Toby Spain 33 off 12 was third beating Anthony Griffiths 33 off 3 on countback.
The Tigers started their Dyfed League programme with a good win 4 ½ to 3 ½ away at Trefloyne but followed with a disappointing loss of 7-1 away in Milford Haven. Meanwhile the Rabbits started their programme with a 4-2 win against Priskilly at home.
Congratulations also to three Club Members, Pat Jones, Elis Lewis and Mathew Evans who were part of a Dyfed Golfing Union Team that played Gloucester at Ross on Wye. Unfortunately due to a rain ravaged day the final score was inconclusive.
