Barry Phipson celebrated his Captain’s Day at the end of July when he invited members and quests to a Stableford Competition.
In Category One, Clive D Williams was out on his own with 43 points off 11. Second was Wayne Gornall, 41 points off 11 and Trevor Davies 3rd on 40 off 9.
In Category Two Ray Dodd led the way with 38 points from George Shepherd on 36 points beating Paul Rimmer also on 36 points on countback. The prize for the best guest went to John Murphy (Borth GC) and the ladies award to Lynda Crawford. The Captain also invited his guests and fellow members to a sumptuous buffet and to sign the evening off drew a raffle, the proceeds of which went to his charity, the Welsh Air Ambulance.
The Aberystwyth Seniors Open took place in July when Dave Houghton won the overall award with 39 points off 10. In Category One Section (55-69,) Wyn Pugh led with 38 points off 9 with Club Captain Barry Phipson second 37 points off 7 holding off Jeff Jones-Hughes 36 off 18 third.
In Category Two Alan Topping, (Tewksbury GC) with 34 points off 17 led the way from Dai James 32 off 13 second beating Emrys James, also 32 off 13 on the back nine.
An Open Competition on the same day saw Stephen Williams win with 33 points off 16 beating Jeremy Edmunds 32 off 6 and Chris Wylde 32 off 23.
On the final Saturday of July an Open Texas Scramble was held and the Clive Davies, Jeremy Edmunds, Harvi Singh and James Jenkins team won with 56.9 with the Llanilar team of Dylan and Jac Morris, Mark Rimmer and Roly Salmon second on 67.5. Third were John Scullion, Clive D Williams, Dai Blair and T Davies on 59.
The third leg of the Redvers Llewellyn also took place and Jac Rimmer led with a level par score 70-3-67 (to drop his handicap to two) from Anthony Griffiths with 71-2-69 beating Jamie Rees’ 82-13-69 and Jamie Morgan’s 93-24-69.
Another Individual Medal saw new member Chris Wylde win his first Competition with 92-25-67 (dropping his handicap to 23) with Chris Tapp second with 77-9-68. Third was Pat Jones 72-4-68 on countback and Graham Saunders (Jnr) 80-11-69 fourth.
The Tigers were away to Trefloyne in the Dyfed League and had a tied match 4 ½ - 4 ½.
Meanwhile the Seniors travelled to Llanidloes only to narrowly lose 3 ½ to 2 ½ but they had their revenge a fortnight later playing at home and winning by four matches to two.
