Two very important presentation events took place at Aberystwyth Golf Club during December.
First of all the Aberystwyth Ladies held their annual Christmas ‘Putt and Take’ competition and afterwards Club President John Wooton presented the trophies won over the season. It was no surprise to find that three ladies had had a very successful season and dominated the competitions.
Kathleen Jenkins carried off three Monthly Medal prizes, the Jimmy Reeves trophy, the Bogey Cup and the Stableford Goblet together with the Margaret Owen Memorial Trophy.
Kay Thomas took four monthly medal prizes, the Monthly Medal play off trophy, the Stableford Cup, the Jubilee Anniversary Cup, the Beryl Roberts Cup and the President’s Prize.
Ruth Morris was the winner of three Monthly Medal competitions, the Salver, the May East trophy, the RAFA cup, the RNLI cup and the Pam Wheeler trophy.
Angharad Basnett won one Monthly Medal competition and the Jubilee Rosebowl whilst Ruth jones and Doreen Jones each triumphed in one Monthly Medal each.
The President finally presented the Challenge Cup to Kathleen Jenkins with Kay Thomas acknowledged as the runner up. Similarly Kathleen Jenkins carried off the award of the Most Consistent Golfer just beating Kay Thomas by one point.
All the other members of the Ladies section admitted that they knew exactly what their New Year resolution would be –“ I must do better.” They also would like to thank President John Wootton for his support and presence throughout the year.
Later on, just before Christmas, the men had their presentation evening preceded by a three man Texas Scramble. Leading the way in this competition was the Anthony Griffiths led team of club President John Wooton and Aled Bebb on 57.8. Second was Pat Jones’ team of Steve Williams and Graham Tapp with 58.8 and third, Ioan Richards’ team of Chris O’Rourke and Mike Jones with 59.3.
With most of the winners of the Club Trophies and Championships present, Club Captain Tim Jenkins alongside Club President John Wooton made the presentations.
Club Match Play Champion was Elis Lewis.
Pat Jones while being the Club Stroke Play Champion also won the J.R.James Shield.
Winner of the Corporation Cup was Jac Rimmer and the President’s Putter was won by Jeremy Edmunds.
The Redvers Llewellyn Award went to Aneurin Thomas and another Penrhyncoch man Martin Harries won the Captain’s Cup with the Vice Captain Plate, also going to the same village, taken by Arwyn Morris.
Finall,y the Knock Out foursomes was won by Llanilar duo John Walter Davies and Mark Rimmer.
Mention must be made of Dylan Morris’ efforts as he reached either the semi-final or final of most competitions without any luck. Hopefully his name as well as many other new names will adorn the trophies in the next year which will be under the leadership of Barry Phipson who was announced as the incoming Captain for 2017.
