A truncated Open Week took place at Aberystwyth Golf Club where a fair turnout was experienced especially in the Open Individual Stableford. Here young Sion Edwards with 37 points off 8 held off three visitors in Kevin Green of Leominster 36 off 8, Simon Grayson also of Leominster with 36 off 9 and then Stuart Jacobs of Glyn Abbey with 36 off 18.
In the Seniors Open Stableford, the overall winner was Ian Jones with 37 points. In Category A, Dave Haughton led with 36 points from J.Maulbridge (visitor) 34 points and Gerwyn Pugh 33 points. In Category B, Emlyn Thomas 35 points led Richard Edwards 33 points and Jeff Hughes also 33 points. In Category C, Alun John led with 35 points from R.H.Jones 34 points and J.A.V.Roberts 33 points.
The final two Redvers Llewellyn qualifiers also took place. In Redvers 3 Graham Saunders Jr. with 79-12-67 was the winner dropping a shot in handicap to 11. Second was Anthony Griffiths 75-5-70, Simon Edwards third 77-5-72 and J.W Davies next on 82-6-76.
In the final qualifier, Redvers Llewellyn 4, Jeremy Edmunds with a shot reducing 73-6-67 was a comfortable winner. Runner up with 78-8-70 was Senior Barry Phipson beating fellow Llanilar golfer Mark Rimmer with 96-26-70 on the back nine with Aneurin Thomas fourth on 79-8-71.
In the August Monthly Medal on a very windy day Anthony Griffiths returned another excellent round of 74-4-70 comfortably holding off the challenge of Wayne Gornall 84-10-74, Aled Bebb 90-14-76 and J.A.V.Roberts 92-16-76.
The Dyfed League games were also played regularly on weekends. The Tigers were busy both at home and away. Two good wins were earned at home against South Pembs by 8 ½ to ½ and Glyn Abbey by 5 ½ to 3 ½ but they suffered on the road with losses to Trefloyne 6 ½ 2 ½ , Milford Haven 7-2 and narrowly away at Glyn Hir by 5-4.
The Rabbits travelled to the south of the county where they lost to Cardigan by 4 matches to 2 and also by the same score to Cwmrhydyneuadd. They also lost at home to league leaders Ashburnham by 3 ½ to 2 ½ but the moment of day took place on the sixteenth when President John Wootton scored a hole in one, ( his second but a first at his home club).
Meanwhile the Seniors continued on a successful season travelling to Llanidloes and returning with a 3-2 win. In the return match at home they had a comfortable win by 5 ½ to ½ They also entertained Borth and Ynyslas the following week and achieved a similar win by 5 ½ to ½ .
