Clecs y Clwb / Club Gossip (late July 2016) (01-08-2016)
Thanks again to Aled Bebb who continues to provide the Cambrian News with copy highlighting the activities of Aberystwyth GC
In the traditional manner, the Captain at Aberystwyth Golf Club, Tim Jenkins held his Captain’s Day at the end of July.
A large number of members and guests were invited to play under a four man Texas Scramble format. Despite a heavy morning mist which made play difficult, the participants proceeded, with the weather improving as the day went on.
At the end of the day, all players agreed it had been an enjoyable and successful event.
The leading team on the day was the past captain Clive Davies led team of Terry Richards, Wayne Gornall and Rhodri Evans. Second came Pat Jones’ team of Gerwyn Pugh, G Priestly and Glyn Todd. Third was Richard Duggan’s team of Tim Turner, John James and Will Steeds.
Nearest the pin on the 18th was Jeff Hughes and nearest the pin on the 9th was Steff Edwards who also had the longest drive on the 15th. Nearest a beer keg placed on the 17th fairway was Justin Quinn.
Tim and his partner Mair then entertained all the players and other guests to an excellent meal at the 19th hole where a raffle and auction was held for the Captain’s Charity and the rest of the night was spent socialising to the sound of a four man group.
The members at the club would like to congratulate Richard James on his maiden professional win at The Lookers Championship, Close House in the PGA Europro tour the first of many hopefully.
