Aled Bebb reports:
With the exceptional fine Autumn weather, October saw several extra Medal and Stableford competitions held, with a fair turnout in each one.
The first ‘extra’ Stableford was won by 26 handicapper, Andrew Carree with 37 points. Harvi Singh (11) followed with 36, beating Clive D Williams (11) on countback. Martin Haynes, 35 points off 9 was fourth.
In another Stableford, Daniel Basnett (10) was the best of three with 37 points. Nathan Jones (12) and Jack Rimmer (5) were the other two. Chris Tapp (8) was fourth with 36 points. He was the best of six players on the same score.
In the final ‘extra’ Stableford, three Penrhyncoch boys led the field with Ioan Richards (3) first with 37 points holding off fellow villagers Jonathan Evans, 35 points off 3 and Aneurin Thomas (8) 35. Fourth was Nick Morgan with 34 points off 11.
In the extra Medal played, Simon Edwards was the winner with 74-5-69 just holding off Ioan Richards’ 73-3-70 return. Simon’s fast improving son Sion was third with 81-10-71 beating Daniel Basnett’s 80-7-71 on countback.
To bring the Summer programme to a conclusion, the Tigers and Rabbits competition was held under four ball better ball rules. Leading the way were the Llanilar duo, veteran ex Captain Barry Phipson and his young partner Sion Edwards with 44 points. Second were Jeremy Edmunds and Chris O’Rourke on 43 beating Emlyn Thomas and J.W.Davies (also 43 points) on the back six.
The Seniors finished their programme with a visit to near neighbours Borth and Ynyslas. In a tight match Aberystwyth prevailed by 4 matches to 2 to complete the double over their compatriots.
The Rabbits played their final League match against South Pembs at home winning by 3 ½ matches to 2 ½.
Sadly, this win was not enough to keep their A League status and they will drop down a division next year.
