A New Captain and a New President.

Photo: Captain Clive Davies begins his Drive in
In the traditional manner, the new Captain of Aberystwyth Golf Club drove in at the beginning of January. Defying the unfavourable weather, he ‘drove in’ in style with a good turnout of members in attendance. The new Captain, Clive Davies, a local businessman is also a keen sportsman. He has seen his handicap lowered substantially in the last couple of years to his present status off 11.
Good Luck and fair weather for him for the next twelve months.
Following his drive in, a hard core of loyal supportive players braved the very strong winds that blew off Cardigan Bay in a four man Texas scramble competition. Some good competitive scores were returned with less than a shot dividing the top four teams. Leading the way with a score of 58.4 was the Ioan Richards led team of Dave Houghton, Trevor Stables and Jeff Jones-Hughes. Second on 58.5 was the outgoing captain, Clive ‘Ghosty’ Williams’ team of Chris O’Rourke, Wyn Hughes and Kevin Roberts. In third place was the vice-captain Tim Jenkins’ team of Adrian Davies, Arwyn Morris and David Jones-Hughes on 58.8.
Following the presentation, another important ceremony took place at the club. Ken Burnell handed the Presidency of the club, after a prominent three years in the office, to another stalwart of the club, John Wootton. John who captained the club in 1995 has been a keen and loyal member since the early eighties and is regularly seen playing several times a week. He also has been a supportive member of the popular Rabbits Dyfed League team.
He is sure to be an active and popular President for the next three years.
