Mark Rimmer (pictured) repeats family success
The last golfing action in August saw 32 golfers who had qualified in four preliminary rounds during the summer go head to head for the prestigious Redvers Llewellyn Cup. Some excellent scores were returned. Winning with an outstanding return of 78-16-62 was Mark Rimmer beating Harvi Singh on 79-14-65 into second place. Third was Jonathan Evans 72-4-68. This was Mark Rimmer’s first main board success having seen son Jack attain such a success earlier in the summer. His handicap will now drop to 13 while Harvi will drop 2 shots due to his net 65. Jonathan Evans’ 72 was the best gross score of the day.
Previously the final qualifying round of the Summer Stableford took place with Terry Davies (40 points off 20) leading from Mark Davies (37 points off 16). Sion Meredith (36 points off 5) was third and Wayne James (35 points off) 14 fourth.
An Extra Medal competition also took place with Ioan I Richards (72-3-69) in first place. Second was Sion Meredith with 76-5-71 and third was Adrian Davies 83-11-72.
The Tigers entertained Glynhir in the Dyfed League and won well 8 ½ to a ½. They also played Carmarthen at home and won by 7 matches to 2. The Rabbits entertained Cwmrhydyneuadd and they also had a good win by 4 matches to 2.
The Seniors entertained neighbouring Penrhos and they also maintained their good form winning by 4 ½ to 2 ½. Sixteen of the Seniors also travelled to Bull Bay (the northernmost course in Wales) to play in their Seniors Open but none managed completely master the very strong north westerly blowing off the Irish Sea. On their way back they also stopped at the Caernarfon Golf Club in the shadow of the castle, and despite another windy day by the shore of the Menai Strait, better scores were returned with Barry Crawford (38 points) and Terry Davies (36 points) the only players to equal or better their handicaps.
