CLECS Y CLWB / CLUB GOSSIP (December, 2013) (23-12-2013)
Aled Bebb reports on the early Winter League results and the rest of the Winter programme so far.
With the favourable unseasonable weather experienced during the large part of December, players turned out in impressive numbers for most of the competitions with up to sixty entering each event.
Leading the way at the beginning of the month were the Thomas family from Penrhyncoch. In an extra Stableford, Aneurin Thomas with 42 points off 10 beat Steve Hughes also 42 off 7 on count back. Mark Rimmer 41 off 18 third showed the way to his son Jack Rimmer who returned 38 off 9 back in fourth.
There followed a series of Winter league competitions and in Winter league 2, Keith Thomas the Editor’s Chirpy Chippy obviously had a weekend off from the wining and dining to return an outstanding 44 off his contracting handicap of 24. More golfing weekends seem to be the answer for Keith. Second with 40 points off 27 was Phil Talco and Mark Jones 39 off 10 third. Martin Groom 38 off 18, was fourth. In Winter League 3, Paul Weston with 40 points off 14 held off three players all on 39 points. Huw Williams off 10 with a better back nine led Mark Rimmer off 18 who beat Lloyd Evans off 21 on the back six. In the Winter League 4, Terry Davies with 38 points off 19 led the way with Terry Richards with 36 points off 17 beating K Clements also 36 off 17 on countback with Anthony Davies 35 off 27, fourth.
With the Winter League programme nearly half way through the individual leader is vice Captain Clive Williams with 149 points from the four outings while his team of Adrian and Terry Davies & Ray Dodd lead with a total 294 points easily leading the field. The Dylan Morris led team of Trevor Stables, Paul Rimmer and Steve Williams with 281 points are the best of the rest.
In between the Winter League programme, a ‘team of three Stableford’ was held and the Martin Harries, Kevin Lewis and Mel Evans team led the way with 81 points. 2nd were Sean Bethell, Harvi Singh and Captain Barry Crawford on eighty points. Ioan R Richards, M Davies and Anthony Griffiths were third on 79 points.
