In the glorious weather now being experienced this year at Aberystwyth, Captain Barry Crawford held his Captain’s Day. With numerous club members present, Barry also had many family, friends and guests from other clubs join him and his wife to celebrate his Captaincy.
With the course in excellent condition the scores were reflective of this fact. The outstanding round of the day and taking the main trophy with 41 points was Martin Haynes. In the 0-14 category leading the way was Martin Harries with 40 points beating Mathew Evans also 40 points on the back nine.
Carl Jones with 38 points was third. In the 15-28 category, Steve Williams with 35 points beat Brian Isaac, also 35 points on the back nine. Mark Rimmer (34 points) was third. In the Seniors category Terry Richards maintained his recent good form to lead with 38 points. Alun Jenkins beat Emrys James on countback for 2nd place with both returning 36 points. The player with the longest drive on the 12th was Dylan Morris with Richie Jenkins the longest hitter, also on the 12th in the Seniors Category. Nearest the pin on the 18th was left hander Richard Duggan. In a hidden hole competition Dai Christopher was the lucky recipient while up and coming Penrhos Junior Dafydd Floyd was the best junior on the day.
In the morning, the Ladies had been invited to join in the celebrations and in their competition, Anne Shaw with 39 points narrowly beat Kathleen Jenkins on 38 points. Kay Thomas achieved the Ladies longest drive.
At the 19th hole following a wholesome buffet and presentations, the Captain gave his thanks to all that had helped to make his day a success. He also presented one of his guests, past chairman Gwilym Williams with a framed photograph of the clubhouse in recognition of his contribution over the years. He also thanked ex captain D.G.Davies for his contribution to the club over the years. D.G. has announced his retirement from golf, but still intends to frequent the club with his bubbling enthusiasm.
