CLECS Y CLWB / CLUB GOSSIP (April, 2013) (18-04-2013)
END OF WINTER PROGRAMME AT ABERYSTWYTH GOLF CLUB
Summary by Aled Bebb
The Winter programme drew to an end with the completion of the Winter League and the playing of the Tigers and Rabbits - the traditional competition played between Winter and Summer Golf.
In the Winter League played over nine qualifying rounds, the leading team consisted of Simon Edwards, John W.Davies, Mark and Jack Rimmer. The leading individual was the consistent Mark Rimmer who has seen his handicap tumble down to 18 after several excellent rounds.
The final itself - where the two best scores counted, was played by the leading eight qualifying teams. The Jeremy Edmunds led team of Sean Bethell, Dr Dafydd Evans and Mathew Webb led the way with 80 points narrowly holding off Simon Edwards, J.W.Davies, Mark and Jack Rimmer with 79 points. The D.G.Davies led team of Dylan Morris, Sion Edwards and Phil Talco were third with 78 points.
The leading individual on the day was Phil Talco with 43 points, from Sean Bethel (41) and Jack Rimmer and Trevor Staples - both on 40 points.
In very cold unspring like weather, a surprisingly good turnout played in the traditional Tigers and Rabbits competition with low and high handicappers combining. Leading the way were Martin Haynes and Phil Small with 42 points from Jeremy Edmunds and Dai Charles (41). Paul Weston and J.A.V.Roberts were third with 40 points.
The club now looks forward to a very busy Summer programme with the long course coming into play at the Easter Weekend.
